Which type of fireplace suits your Bradford home?
The right fire for a Bradford home depends on its age, whether it has a chimney and, in a listed building, what’s allowed.
Terraces and older homes with a chimney breast usually suit a gas fire or stove, while homes without one suit electric or bioethanol.
Gas fires
Many of Bradford’s terraces and family homes still have a chimney breast that can take a conventional flue gas fire, and slimline models suit narrower rooms. Homes without a chimney can often take a balanced flue model vented through an outside wall.
Electric fireplaces
An electric fireplace in Bradford needs no chimney, flue or gas supply, which makes it the simplest choice for extensions and knocked-through lounges. Choose from slim wall-mounted electric fires that save floor space or inset electric fires built into a wall, surround or media wall.
Wood-burning stoves
A wood-burning stove suits period homes with a chimney. Choose from traditional cast-iron designs that suit a period fireplace or clean-lined contemporary models, including multi-fuel stoves, from brands such as Stovax, Chesneys and Leaf Stoves.
Bioethanol fires
A bioethanol fire burns a live flame with no chimney, flue, gas or electrical connection, so it can go almost anywhere in your Bradford home.
Media walls and fireplace surrounds in Bradford
We design and build bespoke media walls and fit fireplace surrounds throughout Bradford.
They’re two different approaches: a media wall builds the fire into a new feature wall, while a surround frames it within an existing chimney breast.
- A media wall brings the fire and the TV into one built-in feature and usually houses an electric, gas or bioethanol fire. We set the wall depth, fire and screen positions, heat clearance and cable routes at survey, so nothing is built before the specification is confirmed.
- A fireplace surround is the more traditional choice, framing a gas fire or stove within an existing chimney breast. Marble and limestone designs from brands such as Chesneys and Elgin & Hall suit the period stone terraces and older homes found across the county.

Aftercare & support

How do we keep fireplace installations safe?
Every fireplace installation is carried out by our registered installers to Building Regulations and the manufacturer’s instructions, so your fire works as it should and your warranty stays valid.
- Gas fires are fitted and commissioned by Gas Safe registered engineers.
- Stoves and chimney liners are installed by HETAS registered installers.
- Electric fires are connected in line with Part P of the Building Regulations.
- Every installation is checked for safe clearances, ventilation and secure fixing before handover.
HERITAGE FIREPLACE IN THE
NORTH WEST
Lancashire Hall is an 18th-century country house that has been fully renovated and refurbished. As part of the wider restoration, Burning Desires handled all of the fireplace, chimney, flue and stove work across the property.
For the main entrance hall, we designed and commissioned a bespoke dog grate, set against Italian black slate with reeded internals and a flue gathering system sized to suit the scale of the space.
The result is a fireplace that sits naturally within the character of the house.Explore the full project and see how it came together.
