Which type of fireplace suits your Stockport home?
The right fire for a Stockport home depends mostly on whether it has a chimney and a gas supply.
Period terraces and family homes usually have chimney breasts that suit a gas fire or stove, while newer homes without one suit electric or bioethanol.
Gas fires
Many of Stockport’s period terraces and family homes still have a chimney breast that can take a conventional flue gas fire, and slimline models suit narrower front rooms. Homes without a chimney can often take a balanced flue model vented through an outside wall.
Electric fireplaces
An electric fireplace in Stockport needs no chimney, flue or gas supply, which makes it the simplest choice for extensions and knocked-through lounges.
Wood-burning stoves
A wood-burning stove suits period homes with a sound chimney. Choose from traditional cast-iron or contemporary designs, including multi-fuel stoves, from brands such as Stovax, Chesneys and Leaf Stoves.
Bioethanol fires
A bioethanol fire burns a live flame with no chimney, flue, gas or electrical connection, so it can go almost anywhere in your Stockport home.

Media walls and fireplace surrounds in Stockport
We design and build bespoke media walls and fit fireplace surrounds across Stockport. They’re two different approaches: a media wall builds the fire into a new feature wall, while a surround frames it within an existing chimney breast.
- A media wall is a contemporary built-in feature that brings the fire and the TV together, often with shelving or storage either side. It usually houses an electric, gas or bioethanol fire, and suits the open-plan extensions common in Stockport. Our media wall fireplaces page explains which fires work in them and how heat is kept clear of the TV.
- A fireplace surround is the traditional choice, framing a gas fire or stove within an existing chimney breast. Marble and limestone designs from brands such as Chesneys and Elgin & Hall suit Stockport’s stone terraces and period semis.

How does fireplace installation in Stockport work?
Every Stockport fireplace installation runs from showroom visit to aftercare, and one in-house team manages all of them.
Showroom visit
Start at our Preston showroom, where you can compare dozens of working fires side by side and talk through your room. If you already know what you want, we can go straight to a home survey.
Home survey & quote
We visit your Stockport home to measure the room and check the chimney, gas supply, power and ventilation, then send a written, no-obligation quote.
Professional installation
Our Gas Safe and HETAS-registered installers handle every part of the job, including gas and electrical connections. Where a builder or designer is already involved, we coordinate with them on site.
Aftercare & support
Your fire is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty and our own service guarantee, and our in-house specialists remain on hand once the job is finished.
How do we keep fireplace installations safe?
Every fireplace installation is carried out by our registered installers to Building Regulations and the manufacturer’s instructions, so your fire works as it should and your warranty stays valid.
- Gas fires are fitted and commissioned by Gas Safe registered engineers.
- Stoves and chimney liners are installed by HETAS registered installers.
- Electric fires are connected in line with Part P of the Building Regulations.
- Every installation is checked for safe clearances, ventilation and secure fixing before handover.
Manchester fireplace
project
This large Manchester home was being fully refurbished, and each space needed a fire suited to how it would be used, from open-plan living areas to a quiet study and a basement conversion.
We installed two Kalfire gas fires in the main living areas, a Gazco gas fire in the study and a Kalfire room divider fire as the centrepiece of the new basement bar and gym. A wood-burning stove in the garden office keeps it usable all year round.
See how we brought it together across the whole property.
