Which type of fireplace suits your Lancashire home?
The right fire for a Lancashire home depends on whether it has a chimney, a gas supply and, in an apartment, what the building allows. The county’s housing runs from mill-town terraces and stone farmhouses to coastal apartments and new-build estates, so the answer changes from one area to the next.
Gas fires for Victorian terraces
The Victorian terraces of Preston, Blackburn and Lancaster usually still have their chimney breasts, which suit a conventional flue gas fire. Slimline models keep depth to a minimum in narrower front rooms.
Electric fires for homes without a chimney
Many newer homes in Lancashire have no chimney, which makes an electric fireplace the simplest choice. It needs no flue or gas supply, so it suits new-build estates and extensions and fits neatly within a media wall.
Wood-burning stoves for stone cottages and farmhouses
The stone cottages and farmhouses of the Ribble Valley and the villages around Lancaster suit a wood-burning stove, with traditional cast-iron and contemporary designs to choose from.
Bioethanol fires for coastal apartments
A bioethanol fire needs no chimney, flue, gas or electrical connection, which suits apartments along the Fylde coast and open-plan homes, though most buildings need management approval before any fire is fitted.

Media walls and fireplace surrounds in Lancashire
We design and build bespoke media walls and fit fireplace surrounds throughout Lanashire.
They’re two different approaches: a media wall builds the fire into a new feature wall, while a surround frames it within an existing chimney breast.
- A media wall brings the fire and the TV into one built-in feature and usually houses an electric, gas or bioethanol fire. We set the wall depth, fire and screen positions, heat clearance and cable routes at survey, so nothing is built before the specification is confirmed.
- A fireplace surround is the more traditional choice, framing a gas fire or stove within an existing chimney breast. Marble and limestone designs from brands such as Chesneys and Elgin & Hall suit the period stone terraces and older homes found across the county.

Professional installation
Our Gas Safe and HETAS-registered installers handle every part of the job, including gas and electrical connections. Where a builder or designer is already involved, we coordinate with them on site.
Aftercare & support
Your fire is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty and our own service guarantee, and our in-house specialists remain on hand once the job is finished.
How do we keep fireplace installations safe?
Every fireplace installation is carried out by our registered installers to Building Regulations and the manufacturer’s instructions, so your fire works as it should and your warranty stays valid.
• Gas fires are fitted and commissioned by Gas Safe registered engineers.
• Stoves and chimney liners are installed by HETAS registered installers.
• Electric fires are connected in line with Part P of the Building Regulations.
• Every installation is checked for safe clearances, ventilation and secure fixing before handover.
